Formed in 1983 by percussionist Paul Burwell, sculptor Richard Wilson
and artist Anne Bean, the Bow Gamelan Ensemble were a theatrical
experience, creating sounds from found objects, junk and debris. They
were once described as 'a cross between a painting by Turner and
Apocalypse Now'. Their name was derived from the influences of the
gamelan tradition and their roots in East London's Bow distriict. They
disbanded in 1990.
